In 1963 the pleasure boating industry was booming with more new boaters than ever before. Unfortunately business was also booming for the Coast Guard with more boating accidents than ever before. They found their answer in their new 44 ft. self-righting Motor Lifeboat. Powered by twin 180 h.p. diesel engines, the boat could achieve speeds of 15 knots and in tests where it towed a 100 ton 95 foot patrol boat, she proved to be a decent little tug as well. Kit 1203 is the all wood version which features plank on frame balsa strip construction, with cleanly die-cut parts for construction of the superstructure. 39 cast fittings and a distinctive Coast Guard insignia decal top off this kit. Dumas is pleased to be able to take you back to an era of elegance. In 1946 Sparkman and Stevens designed a 66 ft. commuter boat for the express purpose of carrying commuters down the Hudson River into New York. What a glorious way to beat the traffic. These commuters were used by their owners as everyday transportation to and from work, and for pleasure trips to their favorite spots. The most famous of these commuters was the Dauntless. The Dauntless was owned by a prominent New York family. They undoubtedly considered the Dauntless a great diversion from their day to day business dealings. The days of the Dauntless are gone but you can bring them back. The Dauntless features top quality construction materials. The kit is made almost entirely of 1/8 in. mahogany plywood. All parts are cleanly die-cut, and we have included a variety of detail parts including 38 cast metal fittings. The size of the Dauntless leaves the door wide open for different powering methods. The obvious choices would be scale electric power, high speed electric power, or twin gas power, but you may have your own ideas. To make this kit R/C here is the recommended running gear: 2x MFA01 6-12V Motors 1x DUM2341 Running Hardware Set Length: 49-1/2" Beam: 14" Scale: 1/16 $249.00 |
When the crew steps aboard a 41 ft. Utility they never know what the day will bring. They may be policeman as they pursue smugglers, or maybe paramedics as they respond to a distress call. Sometimes they work as a tug boat crew as they tow in an impounded pleasure craft. But the worst job of all is when they become a salvage crew scouting for wreckage and searching for survivors. Here is your chance to feel all the excitement with none of the dirty work. We are proud to offer two sizes of the popular 41 ft. Utility Boat. Kit #1214 is our 31 in. version and is highlighted by its accurately die-cut all wood construction. A highly detailed 32 piece deck hardware fittings set is included to make your model a hit on the mantle or on the water. To make this kit R/C here is the recommended running gear: 2x MFA01 6-12V Motors 1x DUM2337 Running Hardware Set Length: 31" Beam: 10" Scale: 1/16 $199.00 |
Here is your chance to try your hand at being a tow boat captain. But just so you know what you are up against. The American Beauty built by St. Louis Ships for Argi-Trans Services measures 170 feet in length, with a beam of 45 feet, and requires 9 feet of water when fully loaded with fuel. Powered by twin 2500 h.p. diesel engines turning two 8 ft. diameter propellers, she typically moves a tow of 20-25 barges each being approximately 200 feet long by 35 feet wide at speeds of 4 to 9 miles per hour. That is almost 4 acres of barges! Fortunately as modelers, we have life a little easier. The Dumas kit of the American Beauty starts off with an ABS plastic hull. The construction of the superstructure is accomplished through the use of precisely die-cut birch and mahogany plywoods.
To complete this kit as the image shows you need to purchase the deck hardware (#DUM2104). Length: 37" Beam: 12" Scale: 7/32 : 1' (~1:54) $275.00 |
The U.S.S. Crockett was one of the seventeen gunboats in the Asheville Class. This class had the distinction of being the first group of Navy Ships to be powered by a gas turbine. The Crockett was capable of a top speed of 50 knots but more impressive still was the fact that she could accelerate her 230 tons from 0 to 40 knots in 60 seconds. The Crockett, stationed in South Vietnam was designed for coastal patrol, blockade reconnaissance, and support missions. But rest assured when duty called, the crew of the U.S.S. Crockett could get there in a hurry. The Dumas model of the Crockett is a builder's boat. She features balsa plank over die-cut mahogany frame construction for the hull, and conventional die-cut construction for the superstructure. #2105 (found below) is an optional deck hardware kit with more than 80 cast fittings. Included in the deck hardware are all the armaments needed to send her in to battle. #2341 (found below) is the twin screw running hardware kit used to drive the Crockett. It has everything needed to complete your drive line except motors. Use two MFA01 Motors (found below) for 6 to 12 volt power. If you are a military enthusiast you will certainly want to try your hand at the Dumas U.S.S. Crockett. Easily power both motors with the TIO30 (found below) ESC made for LiPO, NiCad or NiMH battery packs from 6-12 volts. Length: 51" Beam: 7-1/2" Scale: 5/16 : 1' (~1:40) $239.00 |
Looks can be deceiving, which is certainly the case with the Creole Queen. When you study the Creole Queen you could easily place her in the days of Mark Twain, wheeling down the Mississippi as onlookers sit fishing off the bank. In actuality, the Creole Queen was built in 1983 for the 1984 New Orleans World Fair. The fact that the Queen looks so authentic is no accident. Even though she is powered by a powerful diesel electric propulsion system, the builders at Halter Marine took every precaution to make sure the Creole Queen had the look of the 1800s. The Dumas model of the Creole Queen is constructed of precision die-cut birch and mahogany plywood. The detail package included in the kit is immense. It has stampings, wood turnings, castings, plastic parts, and a 3 page decal set. For the more adventurous, the size of the Creole Queen leaves the door wide open for those modelers wishing to try less conventional powering methods. Live steam would certainly be a possible option. So if you have always dreamed of building your own working stern wheeler, the Dumas Creole Queen is for you. Length: 48" Beam: 10" Scale: 1/48 $479.00 |

The Brooklyn was built in 1910 and owned by the New York Dock Co. Steam powered all her career she was inauspiciously sold for scrap in 1960. She was one of many railroad tugs, designed to transfer railroad cars from one side of New York to the other on barges known as car floats. Railroad tugs almost always towed barges alongside, with one car floating on each side, hence the heavy guards and the use of single posts instead of H-bitts. Railroad tugs were characterized by long houses because there was no need of towing space aft. The Dumas kit of the Brooklyn is designed to give you the salty appearance of the original boat. Not just your average tug, the Brooklyn has the characteristics that set the early tugs apart. You get a vacuum formed hull, all the parts to build the conventional die cut superstructure, and enough detail (laser cut parts, lots of castings, brass railings, etc.) to keep you busy through many a long winter night.
